I got this stand to sit underneath a floor lamp, also purchased here at Hayneedle in order to give it some extra height. The diameter measurement given is somewhat accurate, perhaps a quarter inch or so less than the actual size. My 9.5 inch stand was actually almost 10 inches. One note about the diameter: It describes the flat section of the platform that will support whatever it holds. There is a lip around the circumference of the stand that serves to prevent the pot holder from sliding off the stand. I purchased the rosewood version, since it matched some other furniture in the same room.
