Sparkling Gourami (Trichopsis pumila) is a tiny freshwater labyrinth fish native to Southeast Asia, including the lower Mekong region and nearby slow-moving waters in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In the wild, it is associated with quiet, plant-heavy habitats such as shallow streams, ditches, rice fields, ponds, and vegetated margins. This species stays small, usually around 1.5 inches, with an iridescent body that flashes blue, green, bronze, and red under aquarium lighting. Like other labyrinth fish, it can breathe atmospheric air at the surface, and males may produce soft croaking or clicking sounds during display behavior.
