I read some recent reviews of Marinelands carbon and heard it’s almost sand like or it literally melts away when it gets wet.With the zipper mesh bags I got that would’ve been the first problem as the holes on the mesh bags are much larger than grains of sand. I would say these rage from rice grain to the diameter of a small pea.The thing with anything dusy and granular it can be hard to work with or tedious. It’s not hard to put something in a bag but make sure you don’t breathe in that carbon dust. It also takes a while for the dust to wash out and when it does you’ll have to take a sponge and wipe down the sink..I put about half a cups worth and several pieces of Fluvals biomax ceramics and put it where one of my filters waterflow comes out further purifying post filter(10gal). For a 20gal tank I filled about a cups worth and a bit more biomax ceramic pieces, placed it in a filter and took out the original filter pad and the water became crystal clear within 2-3 hours. There is absolutely no smell even after feeding.Call me crazy but even the air smells more fresh and crisp. It’s not a far out idea that it’s actually cleaning the air too. But from such a small amount? incredible
