Chemex has granted a license to well established Canadian company Dimachem Inc which is investing $3m (Canadian) in a new manufacturing facility near Toronto, Ontario. The Dimachem group has a leading position in the automotive paint preparation market in Canada and has linked up with Chemex to diversify the business sectors in which it operates. Birmingham based Chemex, which supplies cleaning and hygiene materials and consultancy through its UK franchise, already has five overseas operations but this is the first partnership formed in North America. Chemex Managing Director, Melvin Lusty, said: “This is an excellent long term deal for the company and provides a tremendous opportunity to establish Chemex products in North America. “Dimachem is a highly respected company in Canada and its background in chemical based services provides a strong platform for them to become a major force in cleaning and hygiene services.” Dimachem has invested in a purpose made building for the production and distribution of Chemex’s 120 strong product range. Initially the products will be sold via Dimachem’s existing sales force located across Canada but the longer term strategy will be for the company to set up a franchising operation similar to Chemex’s UK model. Mr Lusty added: “We are hopeful that this will be the first in a series of major overseas deals. There is strong interest for Chemex products around the world and we are in discussions to set up similar operations in Australia, Brazil and South Africa. “2010 marks Chemex’s 25th anniversary and this deal is an excellent start to the firm’s programme for change and growth.” |
