Beating the Recession

A Tenby business is celebrating 20 years in business by beating the recession with a flood of new orders.

Dave Ferguson who runs Chemex Tenby and Swansea franchise has won 37 new accounts so far this year.

Dave invested in a franchise with Chemex - Europe’s leading franchised supplier of specialist cleaning and hygiene products - in 1989 and now has a loyal customer base and a reputation for excellent service in the tourism and catering industries.  

But he’s not stopping there and has renewed his franchise for a further five years.

By offering tailor-made solutions to hotels, pubs, restaurants and caravan parks in tourist hotspots such as Cardigan, Tenby and Carmarthen, Dave has attracted significant repeat orders and customers, many of whom have been with him since his first days in business.

“Whether its entire hygiene systems for food preparation or large scale laundry or dishwash systems, I have been able to help and advise my customers to give them peace of mind. It is that confidence within today’s maze of ever-tightening regulations for food production that is valued by all my customers,” said Dave, who is based in Tenby.

“I can take care of everything from stock control to advice on health and safety matters as well as providing training for their staff.”

After thoroughly researching the franchise market, Dave selected Chemex as a result of its reputation for highly-effective, recession-proof products.

“We sell necessities not luxuries,” said Dave “and therefore they are better suited to riding out the recession that has hit the UK.

“There are 400 products, many of which have been specifically developed and updated as part of the Chemex Hygiene Control programme to satisfy the changing food hygiene legislation. My customers know you can’t buy them in the supermarket and they are incredibly powerful, which is why they are so effective.”
